They say winning when playing badly is the sign of a good team – well let’s hope that we prove them correct as we produced possibly our worst performance of the season! This was particularly disappointing after such a polished display last week against Cape Utd.
We started well and should have been 2 or 3 goals to the good but allowed Chelsea into the game as we gave up possession, made poor decisions at vital times and generally lacked the intensity required!
After committing numerous free kicks in dangerous areas,one was eventually on target as Rory O’Brien produced a fantastic one handed save to keep us level! We did eventually score with a fantastic volley from Donovan Carter who was one of the few players who performed well in the first half! 2 Minutes before the break, through some school boy defending we allowed Chelsea to draw level! 1-1 half time score!
Some choice words at half time saw us come out with far more intent albeit still lacking the quality we have produced in the last few weeks. We created numerous goal scoring opportunities without success and just as it seemed it was going to be one of those days, after a good save from their keeper the ball first fell to Warren Van Neel which produced another fine save only for Ishaam Ismail to smash home the rebound! 2-1 the final score although we did have some nervy moments in the last 10 minutes but thanks to some resolute defending from Ebrahiem Martin and his back four we managed to secure all 3 points!Special mention must go to Captain Damian Gomes who worked tirelessly for the full 90 minutes and should have been rewarded with a goal but for the post!
The games come thick and fast as Thursday we entertain Kensington before travelling to Holy Cross on Saturday!
