We travelled to Cape United looking for 3 points in very difficult conditions with the wind and the bumpy pitch not making life easy!
After starting well, a long throw in from Drew Sin was flicked on by the ever present Damian Gomes for Robin Forbes to drive home. 1-0 and we started to really find our rhythm. Moments later, pretty much a replay saw us go 2-0 which seemed to take the wind out of a very youthful Cape Utd team’s sails.
All the while, Warren Van Neel and Ebrahiem Martin were superb at centre back and really gave their strikers absolutely no chance in attack. Malik Martin was proving to be a real menace for them in midfield winning almost every ball which allowed the playmaker Mustapha Moses to turn on the magic!
From another throw in by Drew Sin, Mustapha Moses calmly knocked in a pinpoint cross for Robin Forbes to finish with aplomb and complete his hat trick. 3-0 at half time and we were in complete control as goalkeeper Rory O’Brien was a mere spectator.
Even though we were playing into the strong wind in the 2nd half, we continued where we left off as Damien Gomes and Mujahid Russel caused all sorts of trouble for their inexperienced backline and we were unlucky not to be 5 or even 6 goals to the good!
We did go 4-0 up when a free kick was headed across goal by Josh Stadler for Mujahid Russel to head home!
In a game where we were so dominant against a decent team (albeit very young), it was not surprising that everyone really played their part from Josh Stadler at right back to Riley Raman in midfield to all 3 subs (Bevan Yon, Donovan Carter and Ishaam Ismail)
This truly was a team (squad) performance and as a coaching staff (myself and Shane) a very proud day as everyone knew their role and executed to perfection! The 4-0 final score was nothing less than we deserved!
